Though they’ve recently put out a new album and have been touring almost non-stop lately, evil disco aficionados Static-X may have seen a bump on social media over the last 24 hours thanks to a cheeky recent Instagram post by rap star Megan Thee Stallion.
No stranger to showing off what her mother gave her, Ms. Stallion teased a birthday photo shoot with a whole lot of ass in the shot and a projected image of a snake while Static-X’s track “Cold” from their 2002 sophomore album Machine.
Since this is apparently for a birthday photo shoot release and her birthday’s on February 15, who knows if Megan Thee Stallion’s done posing all sexily to our favorite evil disco act? Maybe we’ll get some twerking footage to “Love Dump” or a sexy take on Michael Jackson’s “Thriller” dance moves to “Z0mbie.” Who knows?
This sort of melding of her art with heavy music is nothing new for Megan Thee Stallion, having already collaborated with Canadian act Spiritbox on a remix of her track “Cobra.” Wait. “Cobra.” A birthday photo shoot featuring snakes and butts. I’m sensing a theme…
But(t) that’s not (entirely) why I’m putting this up on such a high-brow publication like MetalSucks. The reason our interest was piqued and standing at attention was the fact that any time a mainstream artist like Megan Thee Stallion showcases metal in their work, it only serves to expose our world to an even wider audience. Who cares if a rap artist’s ass got them to check out Static-X? Who doesn’t like chunky riffs and butts, after all?!
And while even the guys in Static-X were down with Megan smouldering along to their track, as evidenced by the fact that they re-posted the clip on their official Instagram page, some fans weren’t having it. Down in the comments, there were people complaining about the mixing of the two worlds, with some saying dumb ass shit like “Please god no no don’t take static X from me please it’s all I have left.”
But we’ll say it once again for the people in the back to hear: This is good for metal.
