Nailed To Obscurity – Welcome New Bass Player

After 17 years in service, bass player Carsten Schorn and death doom ensemble Nailed To Obscurity have decided to go separate ways. Concurrently, the five-piece from Germany introduce Lutz Neemann as a full-time replacement.

Comments the band about Carsten Schorn decission to leave: “After 17 incredible years, we bid farewell to our esteemed bassist, Carsten Schorn, who made the decision to leave the band earlier this year. We part ways amicably, filled with deep gratitude for his invaluable contributions to this incredible journey, with all its highs and lows. Although our musical paths now diverge, our bond remains resilient, as nurturing our long-standing friendship is a priority for all of us, which also played a big role in taking this step.

“Carsten’s departure will undoubtedly leave a mark, yet we wholeheartedly support his decision, and are happy that he already found a new musical home quite a while ago in Thulcandra. We will forever cherish the countless memories we’ve shared, of all the amazing things we experienced together, and wish him boundless success in his future endeavors.

Nailed To Obscurity will continue forging ahead with unwavering passion and dedication and we can’t wait to present new music and to return to playing live shows again very soon!”

Carsten adds: “A journey is over. Some of you may have noticed already. The year 2024 began with a big change in my life. In January I decided to leave Nailed To Obscurity. Over the last 17 years, we have experienced unforgettable moments and I will always be grateful for this experience. Without NTO I wouldn’t have seen so many places and met so many great people. The list of people who have supported us along the way is way too long to list in detail, but I would like to thank each and everyone. You know who you are!

“My path, like that of Nailed To Obscurity , will continue, just separately. I hope that my successor receives the same support that I have received over the years. And always be aware: “Alles hat ein Ende, nur die Wurst hat zwei!” See you on the road!”

About the new bassist band explains: “We are thrilled to announce that our longtime friend and touring companion, Lutz Neemann, is joining the ranks of Nailed To Obscurity! He will be taking on the bass duties following Carsten’s departure earlier this year. It feels great to have someone joining the band who not only brings immense musical talent but also shares a history with us, having been a part of our journey since the early days and touring with us for many years already as part of our crew. We can’t wait to return to the stages with this new line-up – which is about to happen this coming weekend already at Wonnemond Festival – motivated to the max and with regained strength. Please join us in giving Lutz a warm welcome!”

Lutz states: “It’s been five years since my last time on stage. After leaving my previous band, Damnation Defaced, I’ve been focused on my own musical pursuits, writing songs and such. But the urge to play in a band again never faded. When I was invited to join Nailed To Obscurity, it was an easy decision to make. We’ve been friends for years, and I’ve been involved with their journey as a lighting technician. Taking on Carsten’s role is both an honor and a joy for me. Looking forward to seeing new faces in the audience and to putting on some exciting shows. Hello, everyone!”
