Maryland’s legendary rockers Clutch are working on a new album, as confirmed by frontman Neil Fallon in a recent chat with TotalRock’s Hobo On The Radio.
“We are writing new material. I am definitely the slowest out of the bunch as far as writing lyrics, ’cause I try the same lyrics on different songs and try to find out where they can live,” Fallon revealed.
Fallon also said the album is still slated for a late 2025 release – third or fourth quarter to be precise.
“We probably — we won’t be recording until next year. And I’m gonna say hopefully the album will come out in the third quarter or fourth quarter of 2025. Which sounds like it’s far away, and I guess it is, to a degree, but that’s gonna come around pretty quickly for us. We’re gonna do it with Grammy-nominated producer Tom Dalgety again. He was awesome. But that never stops us from playing these new songs live, which they’ll inevitably be everyone’s favorite version and they’ll hate the record’s version, but that’s just the way it goes.”
In the meantime, Clutch is hitting the road with the “New World Samurai Tour 2024.” The tour, featuring Blacktop Mojo and The Native Howl, kicks off on April 26 in Richmond, Virginia, and wraps up on May 18 in Belvidere, Illinois.
And for those wondering about the band’s future, drummer Jean-Paul Gaster put any retirement rumors to rest in a recent interview with AndrewHaug: “No, there is no retirement plan in the future. We’re gonna do this for as long as we can possibly do it. We still enjoy it.”
“We just wrapped up a very extensive European tour, probably the longest we’ve done over there. It was certainly difficult to do, and it was tiring, but it was also probably one of the most exciting things I’ll ever do in my entire life. It was amazing. It was an experience of a lifetime. And I think we all feel like that. This opportunity to play music is such a special thing. And I think we all appreciate it more. And so we’re just gonna keep doing this thing for as long as we can. We really enjoy it. I enjoy making music with these guys. It’s a very special thing.”
Clutch and Rival Sons will hit the road for their Two Headed Beast tour this September and October. Clutch will play all of Blast Tyrant in full, while Rival Sons will play all of Great Western Valkyrie. The tour features Fu Manchu and Black Stone Cherry, and you can get your tickets right here.
