Oxbow has sadly come to an end, either permanently or just for a little while.
It all started when vocalist Eugene Robinson left the band four days ago. In part, Robinson stated his decision was made “under the weight of irreconcilable differences, none of them aesthetic or musical, that I now must leave Oxbow.” At the time, Oxbow did not respond or acknowledge that Robinson had left the band and stayed silent on their social media channels.
Now Oxbow guitarist Niko Wenner has come out revealed that the band has broken up due to a “recent allegation” made against him during the band’s 2024 European tour. Wenner notes (in an Instagram story captured by Lambgoat) that whatever happened was “said to have occurred in a crowd” and only involved Wenner and an unnamed party. The full statement from Wenner is as follows.
“Niko Wenner, Oxbow update. An accusation was leveled at me, Niko, during our 2024 European Tour. It’s probably not appropriate for me to give details since the allegation is still unresolved. The alleged incident, said to have occurred in a crowd, involved only myself and the person making the accusation. None of the others in Oxbow were there.
“The accusation led to the cancellation of the last 4 shows of our tour, all in France. I have always greatly enjoyed playing in France and I apologize to anyone who had intentions of seeing us there. Eugene Robinson has at least for now left the band, as he has already made public in his latest substack article.
“As it stands now Oxbow as a band no longer exists. Whether this is a permanent state of affairs remains to be seen.”
Oxbow was formed in 1988 as Ox Bow, and changed their name to Oxbow in 1991. Oxbow released eight albums between 1989 and 2023, their latest being Love’s Holiday.
